Transient deep-water oxygenation recorded by rare Mesoproterozoic phosphorites, South Urals

چکیده
The Mesoproterozoic deep ocean is thought to have been largely anoxic, dominated by ferruginous conditions. Phosphate was scavenged from the water column iron oxyhydroxides, and dissolved nitrate rapidly reduced along redoxcline. Primary productivity therefore generally low, eukaryotic life restricted oxic marine margins. This model supported new nitrogen isotope data Lower Riphean (ca. 1.55 Ga) strata of South Ural Mountains, where we find evidence for strong redox stratification, coupled with low organic carbon content. In contrast, unconformably overlying siliciclastic sedimentary rocks Middle age 1.33 preserve a rare occurrence apatite concretions, associated relatively high concentrations (up 4 wt%). Pb-Pb isochron concretions Zigazino-Komarovo Formation 1330 ± 20 Ma (MSWD = 3.7). We measured ratios across this interval found δ15N values up + 7.6‰, which are similar those in modern upwelling zones indicative significant reservoir. These observations most parsimoniously explained phosphate- nitrate-bearing waters, suggesting that at least regionally temporarily oxygenated. lack redox-sensitive trace element enrichment these general scarcity accumulations record suggest deep-waters were not global persistent phenomenon, but our results confirm oxic, nutrient-rich refugia existed oceans perhaps important radiation early eukaryotes.

Transient water vapor at Europa's south pole.
In November and December 2012, the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) imaged Europa's ultraviolet emissions in the search for vapor plume activity. We report statistically significant coincident surpluses of hydrogen Lyman-α and oxygen OI 130.4-nanometer emissions above the southern hemisphere in December 2012. These emissions were persistently found in the same area over the 7 hours of the observati...
متن کاملRapid deep-water renewal in Lake Issyk-Kul (Kyrgyzstan) indicated by transient tracers
Simultaneous profiles of the transient tracers sulfur hexafluoride (SF6), 3H-3He, and the chlorofluorocarbons CFC-11 and CFC-12 were measured in Lake Issyk-Kul, a large, deep lake in Kyrgyzstan. Apparent water ages derived from these measurements suggest rapid mixing, with a deepwater renewal rate .10% yr21 at 650 m depth. SF6 and 3H3He ages agree reasonably well, whereas CFC ages are significa...
متن کاملOrganomineralization in Mesoproterozoic giant ooids
Ooids are common carbonate particles that are traditionally considered as abiogenically formed by physical and chemical processes in highly agitated environments. Recent studies point to the importance of microbial activities in ooid formation, but more case studies are required to confirm and clarify the roles of microbes and their organomineralization processes. Here we report an integrated p...

Background: Brucellosis can involve almost any organ system and may present with a broad spectrum of clinical presentations. In this study we present a case of deep vein thrombosis due to human brucellosis. Case Presentation: A 15 year old boy presented acute pain and swelling in his left thigh. When admitted to the hospital in june 2011, he complained of fever, chills and lowers extremity pai...
